Claims adjuster is a term used to describe someone who
evaluates the damage caused to property or people when an insurance
related accident occurs.
There a three classes of
claims adjusters: staff adjusters (employed by an insurance company or
self-insured entity), independent (independent contractors; not insurance
company employees) and public adjusters (employed by the policyholder).
Adjusters may handle "property claims" involving damage to buildings and
structures, or "liability claims" involving personal injuries or
third-person property damage from liability situations, such as motor
vehicle accidents, slip and falls, dog bites, or alleged negligent
behavior. Some adjusters handle both types of claims and are known as
"Multi-Line" adjusters.

Public Insurance Adjusters
are businesses that help
policy holders receive payment from insurance companies. Public adjusters
represent clients for a small percentage of the resulting settlement money
from the insurance claim.
These companies can inspect property damage or provide legal advice. They
also help in building the case that is argued against the insurance
company.
Adjusters mostly represent clients who have been victim to property damage
or loss. Most cases involve natural disasters including: fires, floods,
hurricanes, frost damages, burgleries, and earthquakes.
The majority of states require public insurance adjusters to be licensed
with a professional body before they can practice.
A large collaboration of public insurance adjusters is the National
Association of Public Insurance Adjusters, which helps to coordinate
claims and make the business environment open to adjusters. |
